N-Site approximations and CAM analysis for a stochastic sandpile

چکیده
I develop n-site cluster approximations for a stochastic sandpile in one dimension. A height restriction is imposed to limit the number of states: each site can harbor at most two particles (height zi ≤ 2). (This yields a considerable simplification over the unrestricted case, in which the number of states per site is unbounded.) On the basis of results for n ≤ 11 sites, I estimate the critical particle density as ζc = 0.930(1), in good agreement with simulations. A coherent anomaly analysis yields estimates for the order parameter exponent [β = 0.41(1)] and the relaxation time exponent (ν|| ≃ 2.5). Typeset using REVTEX

Sandpiles with height restrictions.
We study stochastic sandpile models with a height restriction in one and two dimensions. A site can topple if it has a height of two, as in Manna's model, but, in contrast to previously studied sandpiles, here the height (or number of particles per site), cannot exceed two. This yields a considerable simplification over the unrestricted case, in which the number of states per site is unbounded....
متن کاملGeneric slow relaxation in a stochastic sandpile
Simulations of a stochastic fixed-energy sandpile in one and two dimensions reveal slow relaxation of the order parameter, even far from the critical point. The decay of the activity is best described by a stretched-exponential form. The persistence probability (for a site not to have toppled up to time t), also exhibits stretchedexponential relaxation. The results suggest a connection between ...
متن کاملA natural stochastic extension of the sandpile model on a graph
We introduce a new model of a stochastic sandpile on a graph G containing a sink. When unstable, a site sends one grain to each of its neighbours independently with probability p ∈ (0, 1). The case p = 1 coincides with the standard Abelian sandpile model. In general, for p ∈ (0, 1), the set of recurrent configurations of this sandpile model is different from that of the Abelian sandpile model. ...
متن کاملA deterministic sandpile automaton revisited
The Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld (BTW) sandpile model is a cellular automaton which has been intensively studied during the last years as a paradigm for self-organized criticality. In this paper, we reconsider a deterministic version of the BTW model introduced by Wiesenfeld, Theiler and McNamara, where sand grains are added always to one fixed site on the square lattice. Using the Abelian sandpile form...
متن کاملUniversality classes in directed sandpile models
We perform large-scale numerical simulations of a directed version of the two-state stochastic sandpile model. Numerical results show that this stochastic model defines a new universality class with respect to the Abelian directed sandpile. The physical origin of the different critical behaviour has to be ascribed to the presence of multiple topplings in the stochastic model. These results prov...
